Workshops & Lectures

Applique Masterclass
(beginner to intermediate)

Starting with simple exercises, building to the final assignment (pictured), students perfect convex and concave curves, sharp points, V’s, stems using bias, circles, and reverse applique. This class can be conducted over one day (students take the final assignment home to complete), or two days (includes additional lectures about broderie perse and Baltimore Album Quilts, and gives more guided time towards the final piece).

For the Birds

In this one hour lecture, Kathryn shares her research gathered for Aves about blocks named for birds. There are hundreds of them; more than could possibly be included in the Aves quilt. Illustrated using antique quilts and patterns, it is a fascinating history of quilt blocks, and a cornucopia of block designs for future projects.

Super Accurate Piecing
(beginner)

In this one or two day class, students learn all the tips and tricks for accurate sewing, rotary cutting and quick machine piecing, so that their points meet and their blocks come out the correct size! A selection of 3½” X 3½” blocks are made, enough for a cushion or bag.

Dove at the Window
(intermediate)

Almost named I’m not scared of Y-Seams or Diamonds Anymore, in this one day class, students work with diamonds and set in seams, perfecting intermediate piecing skills, to make a block large enough for a cushion or bag. An optional foundation-pieced border is supplied to make a stunning circular block.
